Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board currently consists of five (5) members filling specific profiles with backgrounds in social development, funding and program management, financial and legal profiles. The Supervisory Board provides oversight and supervision over management and renders advice to the Managing Director. The SMDF is a self-governing entity which operates in conformity with Corporate Governance laws. The Supervisory Board nominates and appoints members to the Supervisory Board.

As of May 29, 2020 three (3) Members will retire from the Supervisory Board. The SMDF Supervisory Board will require the following positions filled:

  • A candidate Supervisory Board Member

– Financial background

  • A candidate Supervisory Board Member

– Social development background

  • A candidate Supervisory Board Member

– Funding and program management background

Candidates for the Financial position will require the following qualifications:

  • An academic and intellectual professional level Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, auditing or business administration;
  • A track record in interpretation of financial statements;
  • Proven work experience in Finance or Auditing in a senior position;

Candidates for the Social development position will require the following qualifications:

  • An academic and intellectual professional level Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social work/health care/community development with work experience in a Senior management or policy position in social development greater than 5 years;
  • Proven track record of work in the areas of Social and community development

Candidates for the Funding & program management profile will require the following qualifications:

  • Experience in funding or grant financing and or in social program management;
  • An academic and intellectual professional level Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social work with work experience in a Senior management or policy position in social and community development greater than 5 years;

General requirements:

  • Understanding and affinity with the social needs of the community of St. Maarten;
  • Availability to attend Board meetings and time to review and prepare for meetings;
  • Good command of English and preferably also the Dutch language;
  • Integrity, responsibility and an independent attitude;
  • Ability to work in team spirit with other Board Members;
  • Dutch Nationality

About St. Maarten Development Fund Foundation

he St. Maarten Development Fund Foundation ("SMDF") was established in May 2012 with the objective to mediate in the development and financing of projects and programs that contribute to the social & community development of Sint Maarten in the area of poverty alleviation, integrated neighborhood development, youth development & support, senior care & support, social care to vulnerable groups and gender support. The SMDF takes into account the priorities of Sint Maarten as outlined in the Miller Development Goals and the National Development Plan SMDF has been funding 23 Foundations on St. Maarten for the last 7 years and operates on a budget of ANG. 4 Million per year. Over calendar year 2018/2019 SMDF has executed projects & programs for ANG.7 Million in addition to the funding & operational budget. SMDF has a staff of three (3) FTE headed by a Managing Director.
