We have a vacancy for a
Volunteer Care Team Staff
Main responsibility:
The primary objective of this position is to assist shelter residents in achieving physical and emotional safety, becoming self-sufficient, accessing community resources, and transition to independent living that is free from violence.
The successful candidate will:
- Provide emotional support to help women and children understand their feelings and behaviors in response to abuse and specific ways to build self-esteem.
- Work closely with client’s by identifying their needs and make suitable referrals related to community resources, housing, employment, and psychosocial support
- Assess the needs of potential crisis clients, perform intakes and complete other administrative duties,
- Provide crisis support via hotline.
- Maintain an active presence at the shelter while providing a safe and positive environment.
- Attend training sessions and workshops, as per request or as needed for professional development.
- Participate in staff meetings and resident meetings.
Requirements:
- Completed secondary education and computer literacy
- Strong listening, verbal, and written communication. Bilingual is an asset.
- The ability to empathize with the residents to provide a safe and supportive environment.
- Basic awareness of domestic violence issues.
- Caring and patient towards children.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, and integrity.
- Positive attitude and team player.
- This position will require working a combination of day/evening hours, rotating shifts are applicable.
